Are you really wondering how this happened: The 2016 Presidential election

President-elect Trump is merely the product of a very corrupt and vaueless notion of democracy that is promoted and advocated for in this country. This political environment is conducive to celebrating the most facile individuals for the most superficial reasons. Hell, if Beyonce' ran for president she'd win. It's a political process rife with superficiality and little to NO substance. I believe the facts bear out different outcomes than reducing the political outcomes to the singular notion of being motivated by money. To be sure, EVERY election at least since Reagan has financial implications and motivations. Race, class, sexism, blissful and willful ignorance of political matters thrive throughout our social and political institutions. Trump is a clue to an understanding of a nation that did not and has not been post-racial as was asserted by many when Obama won. Conservative whites/Latinos/Blacks went to the poles with misconceptions and anger rooted in false realitie...

Our Need for New Forms of Analysis

It is presently accepted that S.T.E.M. is the sexy and most beneficial plight of academic and professional pursuits. I don't advocate for the false choice of either S.T.E.M. or a focus on the Humanities/Social Sciences. But the utter pronounced observation of anemic political and moral literacy in the public spheres now lead me to aver that needed competence tilts the balance toward these latter areas of social analysis. Build what you may, but no amount of late modern industrialization and invention can mitigate the moral bankruptcy of ill-informed and ignorant "social analyses" being pawned off for implementation for legitimate social arrangements. We are "human, all too human" and are in constant need of refinement and revision. This extant political milieu is impoverished and exemplary of our underdeveloped ideological and social fiber

"Black lives matter": An Organization, but also a moral declaration

Attn: Every gathering of Black folks protesting social and political ills in public should not be understood as being the brain children of nor the result of "The Black Lives Movement" association. Black lives matter is a moral declaration that is as old as the oppressions of Black peoples that dates back approximately 500 years. No shade, but stop thinking that Black folks are monolithic, or in need of a messiah or a messianic group to speak to our conditions of oppression. Black folks embrace a number of groups that buoy the efforts to provide and extend freedoms and equality. The Black Lives Movement association is one among many, and I thank you too.

Rants on our present social unrest

Let's ground this moment in action and thought. Don't give way to an anti-intellectualism that paralyzed our freedom fights of the past. Bro. Kwame Toure told a group of AUC students back in our good Ole days, that the problem he found with many of the social transactions of his extant fight for freedom and equality was a lack of thoughtful organization. His assertion was that they were not given the opportunity to think, analyze and apply thorough going methods because things transpired so rapidly. They were left with immediate and inchoate responses to events that transpired at light speed. Albeit they did one hell of a job, we have resources and bodies to bring all our talents to bear on these social issues and avoid the false dichotomy of thought or action. It's a both/and approach and attack that we should aspire to implement A counter-protest? I'm a walking counter-protest. My skin is just one part of it, for the true counter-protest is in my thinking and re-thi...

A Black Man's response to Black death

I've observed posts that represent attempts to deploy reasoned questions and/or arguments to explain the most recent killings of two Black men in particular. I'm convinced that these reasoned reflections on unreasonable behavior that is grounded in irrational presuppositions, more often than not, lead to an intellectual impasse at best. Reason and rationality are fractured in the presence of tragedy and our desire for explanation is best served through an embrace of human actions shot through with contradiction and unresolved conflict. I was struck with paralyzing silence in the presence of these tragedies and accepted this status as a measure of the profundity of these events. It is my humble suggestion that what we can do for each other is to actively love one another intentionally and directly, commit to extending the dignity and integrity of all without legislating their right to these virtues by our normative standards of acceptance. It is through these lived virtues that ...
