2020 Presidential Election

U.S. federal elections are conceptual rehashings and contemporary rematches of their 19th century Civil War. The battle includes its marginalized citizens as co-workers & assistants to the dominant ideologues' aims and aspirations. That is to say, the Civil Wars are fought for the right to exact power permiscuously and amass financial wealth for elites with little to no regulations or regard for the fundamental civic and human freedoms of the marginalized. Of course "some" socioeconomic gains will be had, but the outcome is asymmetrical and lacks sincere equity. To be clear, we are living on a US continuum of white supremacy, classism, avaricious capitalism, racism, xenophobia, sexism, anti-homosexual attitudes/policies, anti-immigration for non-whites, etc. We need not qualify the profundity or depth of these evils in our lifetime in order to resist and ameliorate their impact, if not their presence altogether. My early adult life was under the oppressive Regan regim...

The new tragic

I'm more convinced now that we occupy a new sense of the tragic. The thematic structures made famous through the Greek tragedians up through Ibsen and Chekhov don't get to the heart of our new forms and structures. Our sense of tragedy purports a view of human nature that teeters on evil. Unlike the Greek tragedians, our actual sufferings overwhelm imaginative myth making. No myth could be so callous as to sacrifice Black lives by caveat. Human contradictions and duplicity have morphed into vile intentional acts of depraved acceptance of the destruction of Black lives. Black suffering is wanton in this "well-ordered" society.

OUR Perceived Privations during the Coronavirus

It's ok to be afraid, angry, frustrated, hurt, even confused. It's not ok to obscure this time of trauma with silence or obfuscation. We are here for one another and that includes listening to our individual and collective musings of fear and pain, as well as our companion of hope that resides in our historic underpinnings and in us now. Not knowing can be disorienting; not caring is inhumane. Wanting to know what ought to be done, what can be done and how we may do it are paths we now bear the burden of walking daily. I guess I now find myself more agnostic on these issues and I simply want to be profoundly present for you as friend, brother, sounding board, or whatever I may. We must see to the care of and for one another now in preparation for subsequent and continued expressions of needed care if only as an extension of a love we must emerge with out of this horrid affair. Maybe we shouldn't view this time as inimitable, because that underestimates an unfolding future o...
